Background: Rorb belongs to the orphan nuclear receptor family and is preferentially expressed in Layer 4 of the mature neocortex [1,2]. Studies in mice indicate that the Rorb gene is a potent determinant of neuronal cell fates in the retina [3] and sensory areas of the cerebral cortex [4].
